History

Founded 02 June 1924

The history of the Ski Club of Victoria is a history of skiing in this state. When the club was founded, skiing, as a sport was almost unknown and what primitive skiing there was centred on the chalet at Mt Buffalo.

The primary goal of the SCV is to cater for its members but non-members are welcome as bona fide guests for the purpose of accommodation and food and beverage services.

A Manager and staff administer the club and our office is located at Mt Buller. The Manager reports to the President and a Board of Directors.

The SCV’s Ivor Whittaker Memorial Lodge at Mt Buller, known as “The Whitt” offers 3 star motel style rooms with private facilities plus a well appointed 1 bedroom apartment. “Kandahar”, our nearby ancillary lodge has comfortable self-catering accommodation for those holidaying on a budget. Both lodges are located on prime sites very close to Bourke Street ski run.

The SCV and the future
The club's board is currently working on a vision for the future. Plans are being developed involving a major renovation of its building including new public space and accommodation facilities.

Getting there
Located 250kms north east of Melbourne, Mt Buller, with an altitude of 1804 metres, is in the heart of some of Victoria’s most spectacular alpine and sub-alpine terrain and is a comfortable 3 hour, sealed road drive through magnificent countryside no matter what route you take. Snow season parking is controlled by attendants and chains must be carried. There is entry gate at the base of the mountain where an Alpine Parks fee is payable. A regular taxi service operates from the car parks to your accommodation.

La Trobe University Sports
An international standard gymnasium with indoor tennis and basketball courts and other sporting amenities is available to guests staying at the Ski Club of Victoria

Our General Manager

Paul Shipley Manager, Ski Club of Victoria

He has worked and lived in a number of resort towns including Queenstown, Mount Cook, Marysville, Mount Hotham and Daylesford.
Paul is passionately interested in wine and was a National Finalist in Sommelier of the Year in 2000 and a finalist in the National ‘Wine Options’ in 1999. This knowledge has been instrumental in his achieving a number of awards at several hotels.

Formerly a keen ‘Kiwi’ rugby player and supporter, since coming to Victoria, Paul has been converted to AFL and is now a signed up member of one of the teams. His other interests include horse trail riding in the High Country, improving his skiing and, if the opportunity arises, learning to snowboard properly.
Paul is looking forward to the challenge of managing the Ski Club of Victoria’s facilities.
