RACE 6 – THE ANDY AND MANDY & TRAVEL PLAN CUP

Week 6 of SCV Racing was another huge success, We would like to give a huge Thanks to Ray and Shirley Lopez for their contributions to SCV races for over 30 years

The Andy & Mandy Cup was started in 1988 by Ray as an incentive for junior members to take up racing.

It was named after Ray’s son and daughter, Andrew & Amanda, and is the longest running Perpetual Cup in the SCV racing history. Unfortunately, it was cancelled in the first season with no snow. The first winners were Andrew Lopez and Susie Wellborne in 1989.

Ray and Shirley ran the races for more than 10 years, and Shirley has presented over 200 medals during that time. The trophy cabinet in the foyer was the result of Ray twisting the Board members arms to spend $2000 to build and was installed during Ray’s term as president. (1999-2002) and he has been a member for 57 years since joining the Club in 1963. He has not missed a Queen’s Birthday on the mountain since 1960, and at 81 is still racing in the Super Vets. He was honoured with life membership in 2006 and is the oldest member of the ski club still racing.

A huge Congratulations to this years winner Emma Wellborne and Banjo Burrell.

We also ran the Ray Lopez Travelplan Cup for the fastest racers in the over 40 categories.
